- In the first of a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Virat Kohli made his return to the Indian ODI team with yet another brilliant century. It was Kohli's 73rd international century and 45th in ODI cricket.
In August 2008, Kohli made his One-Day International debut against Sri Lanka. The following year, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, against the same squad, he struck 107 runs to get his first century.
- India completed the second-highest run-chase of any team in Australia in February 2012 thanks to his 86-ball 133 not out against Sri Lanka. Dean Jones, a former Australian cricketer, called the performance "one of the finest ODI knocks of all time."
The 2012 Asia Cup encounter between India and Pakistan included Kohli's highest score of 183; India successfully chased down a target of 330 set by Pakistan, and Kohli was named man of the match. Then, while competing in the 2013 Triangular Series against the West Indies, he scored his first century as a captain.
- In their two-game series in October 2013 against Australia, Kohli scored two centuries in successful run-chases. The first of the two, which reached 100 not out after 52 balls, continues to stand as the fastest ODI century by an Indian.
The next century, which was struck off 61 balls, remains the third-fastest by an Indian as of September 2019.India has only lost seven ODIs when he has scored a century,
26 of his 45 hundreds in ODIs have occurred in the second innings. In terms of ODI centuries for an active player as of January 2023, Kohli is second only to Tendulkar on the list.
A century was recorded by Kohli on an Australian trip in January 2012 after he made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011.He scored century in both innings of the first Test of the 2014–15 Border–Gavaskar Trophy, scoring 115 and 141 to become the fourth Indian player to accomplish this feat.
- During the series, he was named the Test team's captain, and he made history by becoming the first player to record hundreds in each of his first three innings as captain. The fifth player to record three or more double century in a single year was Kohli in 2016.
He replicated the feat the following year and made history by being the first batsman to record four double centuries in a row in Test series.
He shares fourth place in the list of players with seven double centuries. In 2017, he made history by becoming the first skipper to record ten centuries in a single year. He finished second to Sachin Tendulkar in terms of century in a calendar year the following year with eleven Next year Kohli.
